Top 5 vacation destinations for the summer and how to pack for them.

The key to perfect packing is to work smart instead of hard. Erase the phrase ‘just in case’ from your vocabulary when packing - it adds nothing but additional volume to your suitcase. As the city increasingly heats up day after day, plan a vacation to these trending summer vacation destinations.

New Zealand -

Apart from the carpeted grasslands New Zealand is home to JRR Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings world, complete with the Hobbit village.

Don’t miss: Queenstown: a resort town at the southern tip of New Zealand, it offers a view of nearby mountains and a series of adventure sports such as skiing and cross canyon zip-lining.

Packing tip: Don’t forget an insect repellent. The natural bounty brings with it a number of unusual insects such as blackflies, mosquitoes and indigenous species of wasps and bugs.

Sri Lanka -

Enjoy jungle safaris, old temple architecture, pristine sandy beaches and surf-worthy waves at this perfect summer getaway.

Don’t miss: Nuwara Eliya: Expect horse racing and sports-car hill climbs at this old-school colonial town that hosts tourism in tea and vegetable farms.

Packing tip: Pack your favourite summer dresses. Don’t forget a light jacket or a shrug as temperatures drop below 20 degrees at night.

Iceland -

The chilly hill country is defined by its dramatic volcanic landscape of geysers, hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers and black-sand beaches.

Don’t miss: Vík í Mýrdal: This village, situated on top of a volcano, Katla, is home to a black pebbel beach instead of sand.

Packing tip: Apart from the basic woollen-wear, don’t forget to carry a universal power adaptor as Iceland is equipped only with euro plugs.

Corsica -

This French island showcases landscapes that change every four kilometers. There is a reason why Imtiaz Ali shot Tamasha in this Mediterranean paradise.

Don’t miss: Sardinia: An island is to the south of Corsica and houses the prehistoric temple of Monte d’Accoddi built by the Ozieri culture between 4,000 to 3,650 BC.

Packing tip: Despite its year-round Mediterranean climate, the town faces unannounced rainfall. So add a lightweight raincoat or an umbrella to your printed shirts and bathing suites.

Sikkim -

The state is nestled in the lap of the eastern Himalayas. Frozen mountain-top lakes, waterfalls, ancient monasteries and snow passes give the state a distinct charm.

Don’t miss: Lachen: Perched at an altitude of 9,600 ft, the ancient Tibetan village offers sites such as Naga and Twin waterfalls, alpine flower valleys and the frozen lake of Gurudongmar at 17,800 ft above sea level.

Packing tip: Keep your identity proofs on you at all given points. Lachen is close to the Indian border where inner line permits (ILPs), as provided by the state government of Sikkim, are required.
